Fall Season Finales

I don’t know if this is a new thing, or if it’s just something I’ve never noticed before, but this year seems to be the year of the “Fall Season Finale!”  These Fall finales are done every year, but someone decided to officially name them this year.  It’s just basically more hype for shows that should be able to generate their own hype.  Good shows keep having these Fall finales and it confuses the hell out of me that this thing came out of nowhere.

It all ties into the “tv season” actually being 2 half-seasons.  A lot of shows are cancelled in the first half, and a lot of new shows start up in the second half.  In fact, another recent trend (or one that I’ve just noticed, anyways) has been certain shows doing an uninterrupted second half (Lost), or containing the whole season in 1 half season (24 and Scrubs).  It means no reruns for months, which is why this Fall finale has gotten so big, I guess.  The break is a bit bigger now, I guess.

And it does make sense, with all these very story driven shows, that you wouldn’t want a lot of reruns that disturb the natural flow of the series.

Maybe before this people just never noticed that TV shows often take 1 month breaks.  Now it’s just grown into more of a 2 month breaks.  But since I watch so much, it doesn’t seem all that exciting to me.  It’s called post-sweeps naptime!  But I guess that’s not as good for the promos.

Hmm, this is all starting to make sense.
