I haven’t put up any of my official predictions so I think I have to do it before the season takes off too much:

AL West: Oakland A’s (hopeful)
AL Central: Cleveland Indians (about time?)
AL East: New York Yankees
AL Wild Card: Baltimore Orioles (they are my sleeper champions, I gotta pick them)

NL West: Arizona Diamondbacks (anyone can win that division)
NL Central: St. Louis Cardinals (gotta favor the champs)
NL East: Florida Marlins (Mets have ZERO pitching)
NL Wild Card: Milwaulkee Brewers (mixing it up this year)

AL MVP: Travis Hafner
2nd choice: Manny Ramirez
NL MVP: Albert Pujols
2nd choice: Hanley Ramirez

AL Cy Young: Johan Santana
2nd choice: Rich Harden
NL Cy Young: Brandon Webb (same Cys as last year)
2nd choice: Ben Sheets

RoYs: I don’t know most of the rookies yet. Give me time.

AL Champ: Indians
NL Champ: Diamondbacks

World Series Champ: Cleveland Indians
Big Money Sleeper: Baltimore Orioles!!

Last night I bowled a 165. It included a turkey (3 strikes in a row), followed by a spare, followed by a strike, followed by a spare and strike in the last frame. I just wanted to keep track of my best score ever. Stay tuned!

2007 Sleeper World Series Champ

My sleeper pick for the 2007 World Series Champion is…..the Baltimore Orioles! I know they suck, but if they can string together some nice early months, with that lineup and a decent year by their rotation, I smell a sleeper to rest my hat on.

Obviously, it’s very unlikely, but that’s why they are the sleeper pick. I still hope the A’s win, as always.

Oh, and the Tigers will finish no better than third in the AL Central.

Christmas Season

It’s December, and for some folks, that means Christmas time. For other folks (including me), it’s time to receive lots of fancy gifts from other people while listening to Christmas carols.

In baseball there are generalists, who keep their eye on the ball and see the big picture; football is full of special-duty characters who are very limited in terms of their range but have depth. Baseball represents America before the frontier ended, when there was plenty of space and plenty of time, and philosophic anarchists roamed around on verdant fields “doing their thing” with a free and reckless abandon. The game is relaxing and not particularly taxing on the players, who play many times each week. Football is tremendously difficult on the players and is so tiring that sixty minutes of clock time—which amounts to several hours of real time—exhausts them.
